The names of renowned scientists such as Behring, Liebig and Röntgen are closely linked to Central Hesse. They serve as shining examples of the education and research potiental harboured by the region since those pioneering days.

And the tradition continues. Today, more than half of all inventions and patents registered in the State of Hesse originated in Central Hesse. Furthermore, the universities of Central Hesse receive the most research and development grants in Germany, proof positive of the region's excellent standing as a centre of widespread renown, placed at the top of Hessian higher-learning institutions as the fields of natural sciences, biological sciences and materials research. Central Hesse's three universities provide significant impulses for both the business and science sectors – not just here, but also far beyond the state's boundaries.
