Central Hesse offers residents and visitors many excellent locations and institutions for rest, recuperation and relaxation, including the very popular Lahn Valley and the scenic Vogelsberg. Numerous romantic towns and villages nestled amongst picturesque landscapes help to relieve the tension of everyday life. Central Hesse is also a superb cultural destination. Theatres, innovative museums such as the "Mathematikum" in Giessen, and a variety of interesting leisure-time events make Central Hesse an extremely attractive region for the entire family.

Lich's popular movie theatre "Traumstern", for example, was voted Germany's best repertory cinema for 2004. Central Hesse's "Summer of Culture", meanwhile, features a colourful diversity of events with annually changing themes.
